Referrals for Donations

Electronics

If your electronic items are not in condition to donate, consider recycling them. Electronic recycling, e-cycling, helps eliminate the amount of e-waste that may release hazards in the environment.

Best Buy has an e-cycling program. Their slogan claims they will e-cycle electronics "no matter when you bought it or how old it is." Refer to this list for their accepted e-cycling items. Items on this list can be e-cycled for free.

In addition to Best Buy, Goodwill has partnered with Dell to take part in electronic recycling. Their program, "ReConnect", recycles electronic items of which you are no longer in need.

The State of Maryland passed a law to enforce e-cycling on electronic manufacturers. For more information, visit this link. The website provides collection sites for electronics.  You can contact Dave.Mrgich@maryland.gov for more information about e-cycling in Maryland.

Here is a short video from SimsRecycling Global explaining their method for e-cycling.

Clothing Donations

The ReStore does not accept clothing donations. However, there are many local places to which you can consider donating in order to help clothe those in need.

Consider the following organizations:

  1. Frederick Rescue Mission

  2. Salvation Army

  3. Goodwill

  4. Purple Heart

  5. Heartly House

  6. Way Station

  7. St. Vincent De Paul of Baltimore

  8. Frederick County Department of Social Services

  9. Care Net Pregnancy Center of Frederick

  10. Birthright of Frederick

  11. Glade Valley Community Services

  12. Check with a local church

If you are looking to sell your clothing or accessories, check out some local consignment stores. Thrift Angel, Plato’s Closet, and Chic 2 Chic are a few local shops.

Hazardous Waste

The ReStore does not accept paint or chemicals. These products are considered hazardous waste and should be disposed of properly.

The Frederick County Government helps residents dispose of hazardous waste, such as chemicals and paint. They host two free drop-off events a year. To find out more, visit their website.

The Frederick County Government also promotes the “My-Waste” app that anyone can download to a phone or tablet for FAQ about recycling and getting rid of waste. Learn more about the app here.

Tires

The Department of Solid Waste Management will take old tires and recycle them at the Reichs Ford Road Landfill.

Pet Products

The ReStore does not accept pet products. If you are looking to donate left- over pet food, kennels, pet toys, etc. consider donating them to Animal Control of Frederick County.

Children's Car Seats

The ReStore does not take car seat donations. If your child has outgrown their car seat, there are other options.

Local pregnancy resource centers may accept car seat donations.  A local non-profit, Care Net Pregnancy Center of Frederick, accepts car seat donations. As long as they are fewer than 6 years old, have never been in an accident, you are the original owner and you have the instruction manual, they would be glad to accept the donation. Visit their website for more information.

Keep an eye out for when Babies R Us does their “trade-in” promotion. You can trade in your old car seat and receive a discount off a new one.

Used Toilets

Our ReStore does not accept used toilet donations. Instead, consider sending your toilet to be recycled. The porcelain can be used in concrete to create transportation infrastructure.

ESRR, LLC

Ecology Services Refuse & Recycling will do a bulk pickup of a used toilet for recycling.

Visit their website for more information.

Instruments

The ReStore does not accept organ or piano donations. To sell a piano or organ, try contacting an auction house.
