The eyesore in downtown Frederick is 200 years old.  It is - or was - a log cabin. Termites have devoured the logs. The stairs have collapsed. The floor is rotted. The condition of the Rose Log Cabin on East Fifth Street is so precarious that a preservation contractor would inspect it only when the wood was frozen - to prevent his steps from causing collapse.

All eyes look to the city's Historic Preservation Commission as it prepares for the vote that will determine what happens next in the saga of a crumbling log cabin in downtown Frederick.  Unable to finance its restoration, Habitat for Humanity of Frederick County has requested permission to demolish the decaying cabin it owns at 107 E. Fifth Street with plans to sell the empty lot to a local builder.
