In recent years, Habitat for Humanity International has incorporated additional ways of developing communities while staying true to its founding principles. One of the focuses of the Neighborhood Revitalization (NR) is centered on preserving existing housing in order to bring new life to established neighborhoods. Frederick County is currently working on revitalizing Carroll Park Manor neighborhood.
Our affiliate offers a variety of different services as part of our NR program:
A Brush With Kindness: Exterior painting and minor repairs
Critical Home Repairs: Repairs to alleviate health, life, and safety/code issues
Weatherization: Improve energy efficiency and indoor air quality (this is a service provided by another organization)

Selection & Applicant Eligibility Criteria
To qualify to be a A Brush with Kindness or Critical Home Repair Partner Family, the applicant must have:

A need. The condition of their home should be such that minor exterior repairs, maintenance, landscaping, clean-up, painting, or deck/ramp construction can be completed by volunteers.

The applicant must currently own and occupy the home at least one (1) year as the primary resident where the repairs are to be made and will not sell for at least three (3) years after completion of repairs.

A total family income up to 80% of Frederick County’s median income.
We also require that the applicant and family be willing to contribute at the least 10 hours of “sweat equity” before the completion of the exterior home repairs. The total number of hours is dependent on how many hours the repairs will take. At least one (1) workshop/course, such as home maintenance, is mandatory. Total time will not exceed 70 hours of "sweat equity."
